Kabul security officials reported three explosions in the capital. The blasts occurred in less than three hours. According to Mr. Abdullah, he “played an influential role in providing a moderate reading of high Islamic thought.” Mohammad Atef was 57 years old and from Takhar province in northeastern Afghanistan. He was educated at Pakistan Jihad Invitation University and recently studied for a doctorate in Tajikistan. Kabul police spokesman Faramarz said two people were killed and five others, including two soldiers, were injured in the three blasts.
