Meteorological warning: Possibility of heavy rainfall, flash floods and dust storms in 20 provinces of the country

The Meteorological Department of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation of the Islamic Emirate has issued a new warning of the possibility of heavy rainfall, lightning, flash floods, and relatively strong winds accompanied by dust in a number of provinces of the country, and has called on citizens to take the necessary precautions to prevent possible damage.

According to the department’s press release today, Saturday, 3rd of August, the provinces of Badakhshan, Takhar, Baghlan, Nuristan, Panjshir, Kunar, Laghman, Kapisa, Parwan, Nangarhar, Kabul, Logar, Paktia, Khost, Paktika, Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Bamyan, Samangan, Sar-e-Pul, and Ghor are exposed to heavy rainfall, lightning, and the risk of flash floods.

The Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall in various regions between 10 and 35 millimeters and has warned that in some places, the intensity of rainfall could cause seasonal river flooding, landslides in mountainous areas, and damage to agricultural lands and local infrastructure.

The bulletin also states that relatively strong winds accompanied by dust, especially in open and prone areas, increase the possibility of reduced horizontal visibility and disruption to citizens’ movement.

The Meteorological Department has urged residents of the aforementioned provinces, especially those living near rivers, valleys, and flood-prone areas, to follow safety recommendations and avoid unnecessary travel, stopping along waterways, and being in high-risk areas, and to take necessary measures in advance to reduce possible damage.

This warning comes at a time when heavy rainfall and flash floods in a number of provinces in recent weeks have caused significant financial damage to residential homes, agricultural lands, roads and infrastructure facilities, and in some areas have also caused human casualties.
