Karzai: The Closure of girls’ Education is Being Ordered by Pakistan.
Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, said that the ban on girls’ schools was ordered by Pakistan. In a conversation with the German magazine Spiegel, he said that the Taliban cannot take the achievements of the past 20 years from the people. Hamid Karzai, the Former President of Afghanistan,Once Again Advocated Opening the Doors of Schools to Girls.
Karzai said in an interview with the German news magazine “Spiegel” that “without educated women, we are a dead country.” He added: “Depriving girls of education means an isolated Afghanistan that cannot stand on its own feet.”
Karzai has said that “the prohibition of girls going to school is not based on the rules of Islam, but it is done by the order of the neighboring country, Pakistan.” According to him, “Pakistan’s goal is a defenseless, weak and poor Afghanistan that does not face any problems.” However, Mr.Karzai has stated that there are influential voices among the Taliban who support the presence of girls in schools.
The former president has emphasized that with the Taliban regaining power, the republic’s 20-year gains “have not been erased.” He stated: “Millions of boys and girls have received education, the society of Afghanistan has become modern, they have experienced the freedom of the media. Even the Taliban cannot easily take this back from the Afghans.” However, there are currently many economic problems in Afghanistan. Millions of people have left the country. In addition to stable security and peace, opportunities to earn money, education and freedom are also needed.
According to Mr.Karzai, the Taliban should “seriously strive for international recognition.” He added that in order to do this, the Taliban must make progress in the field of human rights, implement the amnesty order for former members of the government and the army, and end internal power struggles. The former president emphasized: “Otherwise, there will be neither development nor peace.”
Karzai was the president of Afghanistan from 2001 to 2014. During his presidency, he always called the Taliban brothers. Karzai’s policy against the Taliban, who were fighting against Afghan and foreign military forces, drew a lot of criticism.
It should be mentioned that Karzai has been living in Kabul for nearly a year under the rule of the Taliban and has said that he is under house arrest and cannot leave the capital or the country without permission.
