Berlin; Two brothers were sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering their sister
On Thursday, a court in Berlin found two Afghan brothers guilty of murdering their sister and sentenced them to life imprisonment
According to Deutsche Welle, these two brothers accused of murdering their sister, who was a mother of two children, transported her body in a box by train to the state of Bavaria. About a year and a half after this incident, on Thursday the Berlin State Court found the two brothers of the murdered woman guilty of murder in this case. The court sentenced these two men, 24 and 27 years old, to life imprisonment.
The jury found that the two brothers killed their sister in July 2021 because she wanted to live her life on her own terms, not the way her brothers wanted her to live.
“You took away his right to life,” Thomas Gross, the judge of the court, said at the time of announcing the sentence to the two brothers.
After holding 42 meetings and interrogating 52 witnesses, the court came to the conclusion that this 34-year-old woman was murdered by her two brothers, because her lifestyle did not match their moral standards. According to the judges of the court, these two brothers acted based on “ideas reminiscent of the Stone Age” at the time of committing the crime.
The older brother confessed to killing his sister at the trial, but described it as an accident during an argument. The 27-year-old man said that his younger brother was not involved in the murder. His defense lawyers wanted a conviction for the crime of inflicting physical injuries that resulted in death and a prison sentence of up to 5 years.
The defense lawyers of the younger accused wanted his acquittal. But the court found both brothers guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment
