The Ministry of Enjoining the Good and Forbidding the Evil called on UNAMA female employees to observe the hijab.

The Ministry of Promoting Virtue and Prohibiting Evil the Taliban-led government has asked female staff at the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) to wear the Islamic Hijab.

Heidar Barr, deputy director of women’s rights at Human Rights Watch, said the Taliban were trying to impose their hijab on a female staff member at the UN mission.

According to him, the Taliban’s Promoting Virtue and Prohibiting Evil agents on Monday, May 16, 2022 entered the organization’s office and tried to impose Hijab on female UNAMA employees.

In a tweet, she asked how, with such a situation, the security and freedoms of female UN staff in Afghanistan could be protected.

According to him, the Taliban claim that the new Hijab laws are a “recommendation”, but they are forcibly “imposing” them, including on Afghan women working in the UN office.
