The UN Secretary-General tweeted that supporting the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan is a protection that saves children from hunger and societies from poverty.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres tweeted this morning (Saturday, March 23) that advocating for the rights of Afghan women and girls is a protection that saves children from hunger and societies from poverty.
Girls’ schools were scheduled to reopen across the country after months of closure 10 days ago (April, 2, 2022); But the Taliban Ministry of Education announced the same day that secondary schools and girls’ high schools would remain closed until further notice.
The decision has provoked negative reactions and widespread national and international condemnation, but the Taliban has not changed its position so far. Taliban Ministry of Education officials say no decision has been made yet to reopen schools for girls.
