The European special envoy for women called for immediate relief from the Taliban

EU Special Envoy to Afghanistan Thomas Nicholson has reacted to the detention of Afghan citizens and the disappearance of women protesters by the Taliban, saying the move violates the Taliban’s commitment to human rights.

Mr Nicholson tweeted on Sunday, February, 6, 2022 that the arbitrary detention of citizens and the disappearance of protesting women undermined the Taliban’s claim to an interim government based on popular will.

She also called for the immediate release of women detained by the Taliban.

So far, four women protesters have been detained by the Taliban in Kabul. Tamna Zaryab Pariani, Parvana Ibrahimkhel, Mursal Ayar and Zahra Mohammadi are four protesting women who are said to have been detained by the Taliban.

Human rights organizations have previously called for the women to be released. The Taliban have not yet commented.
