The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that it needs a budget of about $950 million to provide life-saving assistance to children and families in need in Afghanistan.
UNICEF has warned in a report that Afghan children are facing multifaceted crises. Restrictions on access to basic services, economic fragility, the consequences of climate change and the limited support space threaten the living conditions of millions of children and families.
According to the agency, these supports could cover the lives of nearly 12 million people, including more than six million children.
The UN agency emphasized that the requested funds will be used to provide urgent assistance, including health care, nutrition, clean water and psychosocial and educational support to vulnerable children and families. UNICEF officials say that without this funding, millions of children may face serious risks to their lives and health.
Afghanistan has been grappling with a series of crises in recent years, from drought and floods to economic hardship and limited social services. Children, especially in deprived areas, have been hit hardest. UNICEF is calling on the international community to provide financial support to ensure continued humanitarian assistance and protect the lives and health of children.
