The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Health says about 16,000 to 20,000 people die due of cancer each year in Afghanistan.
Ministry officials today (Sunday, February, 6) at the World Cancer Day commemoration also said that 40,000 people are diagnosed with cancer annually in Afghanistan.
Mohammad Hassan Ghiasi; The deputy director of policy and plan of the Taliban Ministry of Public Health said that the ministry has set up treatment centers to fight cancer in Kabul, Herat and Balkh provinces.
According to him, health workers have been trained to fight cancer, and cancer awareness has been provided.
The Ministry of Public Health has noted that cancers of the mouth and lips, breast, stomach, lung, esophagus and uterus are the most common cancers in Afghanistan.
The ministry cited the use of fried foods, physical inactivity, tobacco use, disregard for advice and unhealthy nutrition as factors that play a significant role in causing cancer
