Increase in earthquake casualties and damages in northern regions of the country

According to the latest statistics, 27 people were killed, 956 were injured and 512 houses were destroyed in the 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck the regions of Sar-e-Pul, Samangan, Balkh and some northern regions of the country on Monday night.
Dr. Sharafat Zaman, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health, said that rescue operations have been completed and the injured are being treated in health centers.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has also expressed concern about the displacement of a large number of residents in various northern regions of the country. According to them, if immediate assistance is not provided, the injured are at serious risk. The World Health Organization has also said that the earthquake has damaged several medical centers, clinics and care centers in the affected areas.
Government officials, however, announced the dispatch of special teams to address the problems of the injured. Officials of the Breshna Company also said that efforts are underway to reconnect electricity to Uzbekistan.
